Expansion plugs?

Hi, Guys.

I know my engine has three 1/2" expansion plugs underneath the rear main cap, but the freeze plug kit came with some smaller plugs as well. Does anybody know where they go?

Thanks.

The typical freeze plug set comes with two different size small plugs. 3 go in the oil galleys behind the timing chain. One of the other two sizes goes in the oil galley under the rear main cap. Early pre 86' blocks use one size and later blocks use the other. You will end up with an extra plug.

My block has NPT pipe plugs in the oil galleries. There are still several small expansion plugs in the kit that are not accounted for.

Pre 85 blocks used Pioneer # EPC-95 and the same one under the rear cap the later block used EPC-105 which is a smaller plug 3 in back of the timing cover and the same size under the rear cap.

There are also some blocks that take two 16MM plugs in back of the timing cover.

Thanks, Guys.

I only have one 1/2" plug under the main cap. Apparently, they gave me a bunch of different sizes for different generation blocks. I thought "No way there can be that many holes".

I also found a thread below that deals with the plug under the main cap.

plug under #5 main bearing?

Thanks.
