You will be opening yourself to a lot of fab work to remove the trunk internal water drip rail . My question - why as the "hinges" normally are nothing more then a pin screwed through a steel on each side and a reinforced area on the lid. And while crude, works just fine.

Then you get into making lid reinforcements and figuring out some way to attach them to the inside - that inside has a separate skin as well.
This early before paint photo of my roadster, coupes are the same, will show that drip rail and the lid reinforcements. the inner skin and the lid lip - there is no rubber weather stripping, only the rails.
