The Eye of The Needle?

The other night, the top thread on my machine started to fray and then eventually break. I have been using the machine for a while with the same needle (Consew 225) and had never experienced a problem like this before. I new the threading was ok, so I changed the needle and the problem was solved. My question is this: As the thread passes though the eye of the needle, does it wear out the inside of the eye ?

Yes, the thread can wear out the eye just enough to make the thread fray.

No one lives forever, the trick is creating something that will.
