EZ wiring project
Hey all,
I've been plugging away on wiring my '76 trans am with an ez wiring kit. The problem im having is with the directional signal connector (steering column). I looked at my wiring diagram in the haynes manual, and also a factory diagram that I had bought. The problem is the wires coming out of the column are not the same color as what is specified in the wiring diagrams. The color wires coming out of my steering column harness are white, yellow, green, black, brown, purple, lt blue, blue, lt green, and what looks like a wire that is half lt green and half lt brown. My wiring diagrams are saying that i should have white, dk green w/ white stripe, yellow, purple, brown, dk blue, lt blue, dk green, black w/ pink stripe, black, and gray. The ez wiring kit says that i only need to use the black, lt. blue, blue, brown, purple, yellow, green , and white wires. My question is do I use just the wires specified by ez wiring, and cap off the other wires that are not needed? Does anyone have an idea what the other wires are for? sorry for the long post. Thanks everyone. Ben |

Doc here,
Use those wires specified by the EZ kit... Find the matching colors on the Column plug first, then verify them with your manual..(I.E. Wiper control, lights, hi beams, ect..) Make a list as to what they do, AND their color. NEXT verify that the EZ harness color wire/pin does that function..add each to your list as you clear it..the "Left overs" Remove and cap off. EXAMPLE: Column.....................PIN.............Harness .............pin Lt Blue...Wiper...........3...............Lt blu...wiper.........3 White....lights............5...............green.. .light..........5 Gray......hi beams.......4...............purple..hi beams.....4 And so on..just note differences and pin locations so as not to confuse it..and save your notes with your harness package for future Troubleshooting diagrams.
