What is "factory paint"? You can take the color codes to a local paint jobber and they mix the paint to match for you. As far as I konw, you can't just buy the paint that they used at the factory. It may depend on what factory it was built at, as far as what brand that they used.
I have been told that the Dupont Jobbers, and possibly others, can tell what variation of that code was used on the vehicle, based on the VIN. Aaron |

If you could, which you can't, the hazardous shipping costs would be astronomical. Factory paint would be PPG, DuPont BASF and the like. These are price controlled and you will not find any cheaper prices than your local jobber. I had a list of paint, reducers, and activators I needed. Got a price locally then got on the phone and called every PPG jobber in the Houston area, The prices were all the same down to the penny.

Any of the reputable complanies can match your original shade in their brand, they will have a book to look up the color code... but if you were curious who made the paint for your original ride, PPG is the biggest supplier to Ford, with DuPont a close second. I think the truck plants all were using PPG at that time.
The paint chemistry guys are really good. I was involved in a change over from DuPont to PPG once, and most of the colors were carried over. They matched beautifully, you could look at a pre-change and post change car next to each other and couldn't tell. |
