Fan Clutch ???? AAAAGGGHHH!

99 chevy 4.3L s-10

Several weeks ago my stock fan clutch began to fail. The fan got louder and louder and eventualy completely jammed up. My truck sounded like a jet taking off. I tried to go the electric fan route, but I could not find fans powerful enough to keep the engine cool - I didn't want to pay the $400 to $500 for a custom fit shroud & fan combo. So I purchased a replacement fan clutch. Once installed I cranked the truck and again the engine sounded like a jet. I assumed either the part was faulty or not the correct one. I returned the clutch for another. The second clutch worked for about ten minutes in the morning and then jammed up. Every once in a while it would dissengage and quiet down - with NO relation to the engine temp. I got a third clutch and it worked like the second. I got a fourth clutch and it didn't work at all.
I then went to a different auto store and got a different brand. The new clutch does not work either. What the hell is going on here? What am I missing? I have had many cars and trucks with fan clutches, and all of them have eventually needed to be replaced . I have never run into this problem.
Any input from chevy guys?
P.S I picked up an electric fan and shroud from a 94 3.8L Taurus. The dimensions should almost perfectly fit my chevy radiator. hope it works

Most aftermarket fan clutches are junk, in my opinion and experience. Hate to say it but going to OEM from the dealer is about the best way to go. If you can get the electric fan and shround to fit, that will probably work good too.

My suggestion on the flex fans is to leave them where they belong!!! On the store shelf! Reason is they require lots of power to run and if you are running high rpm's, they tend to come apart.
