2.3L Mustang, '79-'93 $500
Now start hunting at Pick-N-Pull
for a Mark 7 LSC from which to get the SEFI 5.0 with radiator and computer / AOD / 3.27:1 Traction-Lok 8.8" disc-brake axle, all for another $500
Now get on E-bay and find a Chinese turbo. Then a fuel pump, the exhaust system, a trans kit, a ( probably-used-up ) pair of drag radials, et cetera.
If you can't break 10.99 for under $3K, you're doing something wrong. This will get you booted from the track, of course, for no cage and for the c-clip axles, but so what?

go find ya a $450 350 running up at the junk yard or pick and pull make sure shes a roller set up vortec headed. And then grab you a nice lil $700 s10 with a 4.3liter 700R4 already in it, weld some brackets in and drop a nice beefy mild roller cam in, take the fuel injection off, Eldebrock rpm vortec bolt pattern intake $120-$200, set a nice eldebrock 650-700cfms on top $220 set of nice ladder bars, drag radials, cut the bed out for slicks, stock HEI vacuum dizzy, good set of plug wires, cap rotor, oil change, dizzy spring kit for coil in cap and thats all it takes to run a nice times maybe 12s or 11s

I love the SC 3800 series II myself. It does have a ceiling though. Other than a pulley change, most upgrades can get ridiculous. I say put that in a 500 dollar miata chassis and have some low buck fun. Probably a 12.90s ride

The V8 S10 is always there, but theres no resale value there really.

I agree. It's kind of like when someone asks you, "When did you stop beating your wife?" There's no correct way to answer the question.

Centerline wants to beat his wife, fine. There are ways to answer it, you are not going to find a new cobra, all modded on the down low.

Everyday people ask what cam or package makes more power. If that is what they want, power , whats the cheapest way to start off with a fine hand.

Your time is supposedly valueable. Those hours in a recycle yard and garage time add up. Prices for running 350s are at a high right now, a 700r4 trans alone from the s10 may be 6-700.

The 3.8 supercharged GMs are potent, and are made in mass numbers.

Right out of the box?

- LT1 Camaros: I've seen 'em go as low as a couple grand in my area lately. Firebirds and Trans Ams will always cost more. But these cars are now 16 + years old, so some refreshing may be needed.

- Foxbody Mustangs: Long considered the cheapest way to make up to 500 hp. Prices are in the same range as the LT1 Camaros, but lots more aftermarket support.

- LS1 F-bodies: Camaros are hovering in the $5,000 to $7,500 range in my area. Lots more aftermarket support than the LT1s. Possibly the best bang for the buck.

- LT1 Corvette: Around the same price range as the LS1 f-bodies, and probably better maintained.

- SN95 Supercharged Mustang Cobras: Prices seem to be around $20,000 average.

- LS1 Corvette: Prices are around $20,000.

- Subaru STi: early ones from the 2004 - 2006ish seem to be going for about $22,000 average.

- 90s' DSM Eclipse/Talon: Rumor is they can be made fast for cheap.

Spinn, i dont know bout area or whereabouts, but from where im from the 350(running) S10, or the 350(running) T56 chevette arent very costly neither does the value go down if the V8s support good or better gas milege than the 2.8 Liter 5speed V6 s10(which is always easy to do unless very well kept) and the price between the manual and the automatic could be cheaper, and who knows in the long run why you would qeustion the price of a good working 700R4. A five speed might be great, But suffer in prices of clutch changes and pilot bearings you tell me why it wouldnt be smarter to pay 700 dollars for the automatic overdrive with lower gearing?
