Fat Man sub frame for 37 Olds
I just received the sub frame for my project, 37 Olds coupe. I have done searches on installs and have read some magazine articles on installations, but if anyone has some comments, they would be greatly appreciated.
I will try to post pictures as this progresses. Rick |

re: Fat Man sub frame for 37 Olds
Rick, I did a fatman on my 36 LaSalle Coupe, very simular to your project I think. The Radiator core support is critical,Measure it very well. my original mount was angled down to the rear, where the Fatman showed up level, so I had to heat and bend it. Might want to look at that on yours, there is no mention of an angle on their spec sheet and I did not catch it till after the chassis was all painted. Hope to see some pics of your project. hope this helps.

re: Fat Man sub frame for 37 Olds
I called Fatmans yesterday to ask if I should weld the frame in level or the same height as the radiator support. If I did it level, I would have an inch to play with at the radiator support. They said to make sure the support was same height or a little less and not worry about the front frame being level, other than side to side. It was the answer I expected, but wanted to make sure before I cut the front off. They were polite and helpful in all respects.
Tomorrow, I will verify all my measurements and start cutting. Rick |

re: Fat Man sub frame for 37 Olds
Well, I finally got it spot welded. I had to shorten it up a couple times(total of about 3/4") to get the wheels centered in the fender. I also had to move the hole for the radiator support ahead by 1 5/8" to match the plumb bob mark on the floor. There measurements were off a ways, but they said there are so many models, it is tough to have all on hand. I put all the sheet metal on to make sure everything lined up. It looks great.
I am waiting for a pro to finish the welding process(about 4 weeks). He should be here this week. I am also going to box the frame immediately behind the stub frame. It should help strengthen the whole front. Next job will be to set the motor and trans and fab up some motor mounts. I hope the pictures post. Rick |
