Fel-Pro Gasket

My Fel-Pro gasket part# 1205 covers the top portion of my AFR head. I'm trying to maximaize the airflow of my intake to heads airflow without interruption. It has about a 1/16" to 1/8" lip over the intake port of the head. Will it be sufficient to gently file the inside of the gasket port to match the head and prevent the disruption of flow?

Perfectly acceptable if you have enough remaining to get a good seal.

Yes, back when (the good old days?) before the advent of Mr. Gasket. We used to modify stock gaskets all the time.

Why not match the head to the gasket?

Troy

These are brand new AFR 195, so I will not be doing any modification of the heads. The CNC Machine work looks too pretty ( ) for me to mess up with my die grinder. beside the heads port is bigger than the gasket port, so to match the head to the gasket I will have to add some metal. I will just remove a little of the top of the gasket to get it to match the head.

Dave

you might just want to go to FelPro number F1206 which has a 1.34 x 2.21 opening, I believe if you try to remove an 1/8 inch off the top of the gasket you have now you might cut into the seal that surrounds the opening.

gasket

I agree with engineczar, i kinda doubt that you will get the whole 1/8" off before you nick the sealing ring. If those heads were cnc'd by afr then they should be to a known gasket size... Sounds like a 1206 to me also... call afr and ask them what gasket size they port to.

Sbc are know to suck intake gaskets anyway so be careful with modifying one. I have trimmed those gaskets some what with good results but never past the seal...
