it's easy for us cause we have sac mustang and can just order their staples they sell for Mustang fenders. In fact, it was my suggestion cause I did the same for my mustang. Anywho, just use the factory holes and staple them by hand but you have to create holes for the rubber.

On my 41 Ford I used weather strip adhesive on fender and brushed it on the welting. used the cheep plastic spring clips to hold it in place over night.
Good luck, mine still moved in one area but it was fine once the bolts were installed.
Use a very sharp razor to put a slit in the welt and it hold the bolt that way also.

On my 56 Truck, I removed the welting on the rear fenders and never replaced it. Never had problems with noise, rubbing etc. I like the look the look better without the welting. I know the old welting had several slits cut into it which allowed the welting to be flexible and be pushed in between the fender the body. Not sure about using any adhesive?

I ran my truck without it as well, it didn't come from the factory with it, and it's built the same as every other car that used it from the factory, go figure.

But as far as installing it. What I have done in the past was to simply make it fit the fender by cutting, folding, what ever, then stapling it with a regular stapler and punched holes for the bolts so the bolts would hold it in place. That and pushing or pulling it into place when the fender is tightened. Done deal, it ain't going to go anywhere.

Now, thinking back I have to assume that staple rusted so a stainless or aluminum one would probably out last us all.

i used 3m .5'' double sided tape to hold the welt on my rear fenders.
it worked very well to hold the welt secure and allowed me to cut holes and V slit corners where needed.
