Fender welting

Looking for an idea to use as welting or "protection" between the fender and the inner fender for a 71 chev 4x4 project. originally didn't have anything but metal to metal, but would be nicer to fill the small gap with something as I am bolting it together. Any ideas?

Gasket paper from the auto parts store. Ford used paper spacers on their F-150 fenders for years.

Fender welting

Thanks for the tip about the gasket material. I used that, and then used some seam sealer at the split line.
