few small issues 305 tbi

hey wats up guys! This problem only occurs in the morning when the engine is cold...when i start my car its blows a lil bit of white smoke smells kinda rich and sometimes it doesnt! once i get it to maybe 160 degrees and put it in drive or reverse and give a slight bit of gas to move the car it hesitates very bad and almost cut off then picks up and go and after that i have no problems once again its a 305 tbi with flowmaster exhaust no cats

TBI No cats

Being computer controlled and running extra rich in the morning. the computer may be trying to compensate for whats missing. the wrong input its receiving from the sensors may cause this sputter or hesitation.

The place to start is to look carefully for any possible vacuum leaks. If the O2 sensor "sees" excess O2 in the exhaust it will richen the a/f mixture to compensate. I'd also say to check for any computer codes that may be stored- even though there's not currently a check engine light on.

so the best thing would be to maybe have it chip'd and tuned? Would it help also to get a tbi adjustable fuel pressure regulator? Maybe just trashing the whole unit for a tpi or carb

Tuned, yes. Chipped? Not unless you have aftermarket/performance parts installed that are munging the sensor readings to the computer. Low vacuum is the biggest culprit- and that can be caused by a performance cam, a bad tune, leaking vacuum lines or components, etc. Is the engine bone stock or modified?

Start w/a thorough inspection- including pulling the codes- followed by a tune up, including fuel filter, PCV, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. unless you know the parts were replaced already.
