fiber glass kick panel
 

I wont to make some new kick panels from my 81 Datsun 4x4 to put some bigger speakers in. Since it may take me a few trys i don't wont to sacrifice my originals. there are a few contours i have to contend with. So this is my plan. I was going to cover my kick panel with saran warp, Then lay the colt over it with resin on it and let it dry. Then use it to build off of. will this work?

In a word, YES.

saran wrap will melt. use aluminum foil.

OK should i just lay one layer of mat down on the original panel, and let it dry then build up, are just build from the beginning?

fiberglassforums.com has a whole sub-forum dedicated to building kicks, that's where i'd start.
i'd start from scratch if they mount easy. if the mount is complicated try to build off a junkyard set.
if you build off the original kicks you will need to use the kick as a base for mounting purposes.
am i making sense here?

I've used a t-shirt before. Mount the "pods" for the speakers, then stretch the t-shirt over the whole kickpanel tight. Coat t-shirt with resin. I made a set for my f150, turned out great.

Nice work. You can also use fleece as a base for the resin. Anything stretchy and absorbent.

i never had a problem with siran wrap melting just maybe tearing. I use duct tape alot..just try to keep resin from the glue side..so good closed seams is a key..:cool:
