Fiberglas Willys body

I have a few questions for you, I am in the process of buying a 1941 Willys body from a company by the name of Atlanta Hot Rods, does anyone know anything pro or con about the company or their products? Second does anyone know where I can buy a video tape(VHS or DVD) with procedures how to assemble(put together) the doors and trunk lids along with the door and hood hinges
Thanks for any help you can give me. It could save me from getting into more than I can handle.
Thanks - Jerry

If you have never built a fiberglass car body you are in for a lot of learning...You will need to be proficient at laminating, steel, wood and fiberglass fabrication and bodywork. A good imagination and being resourceful when it comes to building things is also helpful.

You should talk to others who are building that body, and ask them what to expect..Ask the seller to give you a list of names of past customers who you can talk to. Any company with any worth will get you in touch of someone who can give you a reference, and let you know what their experience was..

I don't know of any videos, but there is a book called "How to build fiberglass rods, customs and kit cars", published by Tex Smith, and written by Ron Ceridano, and others.
There are chapters on steel structure, laminating and some panel assembly.

(There is one review of this book on the Amazon site, and the review is a bunch of BS. I also have the book by Forbes that the reviewer says is better, and it is not better at all..)

I worked for a major manufacturer building and assembling fiberglass car bodies for 13 years full time, and have continued doing work for them part time since 97.

If you have specific questions, post them here, and there are several members here, like me, who are experienced with this type of work.

I have not heard of the company you referenced. You should find out if they are the manufacturers, or just selling the body.

Here is a list of fiberglass body manufacturers.

http://www.seattlestreetrods.com/body_mfg.htm
Scroll down the list on the left and find Willys.

Later, mikey

I cannot not stress enough the things Mikey has said. If you do anything, talk to people who have built one. If you see one finished ask if they built it, chances are they did not and are not qualified to answer questions IMO. If possible visit the shop and and ask for references.

Vince

Mikey and Vince is right!!Make sure you do your home work first. There is alot to do when you build a kit.Lot's of people have bought kit's And didn't finish's them because of some problems.I'm not trying to say you can't,So please don't take this the wrong way.Just make your plan,And then work your plan. The kingpin look's very nice.Didn't see one up close. Not sure but the ones you are talking about,Come in a (LOT) of pieces's,Check and see before you buy,I think you have to put the inter in outer door's together

Listen to what Mike and Vince said....Do your research, and take the time to visit the company you are interested in. If they are not willing to show you around and answer all questions in person, walk away fast...
I have an Outlaw '41 Willys body/chassis, and am very satisfied with it so far (still under construction). Outlaw is northeast of Pittsburgh, maybe even a day trip for you from Ohio.
If you have any other Outlaw questions, please let me know.

Hope this helps,
Steve

glass bodies

I was seriously considering building a fiberglas 34 coupe a few years ago until I saw one of the bodies with about 10 K miles on the road. there were serious cracks and checking in the paint. There are a lot of companies that have been around quite a few years that build good products . Just be sure of what you are getting.
