So much to learn here. I'm new at everything and I just can't get enough information. Nowhere can I find a book or info on dashboard design and I am so uncreative I just can't visualize what looks good or even what is possible. How do you learn this stuff?

I know very little about materials. How to build up fiberglass (like, what's the difference in resin and filler and bondo), how and when to use a wire or wood or paper mache frame, what kind of metal works, where to get it, how to cut it, how to fasten it. What are some ideas for the final covering and where can you get materials like fake wood and vinyl and how to put it all on so the sun won't destroy it....

If i get a decent response to this (if people actually find it helpful) I have a bunch more things like this I can do. Step by step of door panels, headliners, insulation, carpet padding, carpet, basic panels, etc. Its takes me a decent amount of time to upload the pictures to my site and link all the pics, but if people find it useful Ill definitely do it again.

Oh and the fleece can be painted. I usually get less "fibers" when sanding fleece than i do with chop mat. A gel coat or a high build primer would be beneficial though.

Yes, please define what fleece you used, and any other tutorials you can post would be terrific. It's really nice of a pro like you to take the time to help out like this.

just a quick question about mixing the resin. I have not fiberglassed before and don't know how to mix it properly.

What would be a good inexpensive project to learn with and get the process down? I eventually want to update my entire interior, dash board and all. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Yes, you can sand fibreglass to be painted, but it requires alot of sanding because there cannot be any imperfections in the fibreglass at all, or they will show through the paint,so it can require alot of sanding, and some body filler as well

I cant tell you what he used for fleece, but if your looking for the actual fibreglass matting, you can get it at any store that sells body supplies,and its extremly cheap stuff.

an easy inexpensive fibreglass project is to do a kickpannel, or a set of "A" pillers. The biggest factor in mixing fibreglass is temperature, most containers of resing have the measurments right on them, just figure out what temperature your work area is, and look it up on the back of the container.

Regardless if you mess up the mix, placing the part in direct sunlight will set the resin every time. The stuff is very UV sensitive so a sticky, gooey part will harden right up in sun.
