Fiberglass work

If one were so inclined to use their fender as a mold for fiberglass what would one put on the fender so the fiberglass would not stick to the fender when trying to remove the piece?

I would like to make an attempt to start making fiberglass body parts. Maybe carbon-fiber in the future.

Any help ideas etc?

I haven't done anything as large as a fender but I have coated things I have used as molds (fender scoops hodd scoops etc) with common parafin wax and the glass released easily. I melted the wax, brushed it on the mold, and polished it by rubbing with my hand to smooth it before fiberglasing over it.

There's many products out there to use as a mold release. You can use multiple coats of wax and Parting film such as PVA. Do a search on this site and you'll find plenty of mold making threads.
Also, you can try here:

http://www.fibergla s s

They have a learning center with a lot of information.

Also try here:

Or here:

Sorry, tried to get the website link to show correctly, but can't. Take out the spaces between each s in the two websites above and they should work. The word fiberglass should appear correctly but a filter seems to be preventing it.

I saw a thread on the web where a guy made a mold from his hood and he covered the hood with saran wrap and taped the seams shut. He said it took a bit of sanding to smooth the mold out afterwards but there was no damage to the hood.
