I`ve never seen a GM tranny without the O ring, however, I`m sure you can go to any parts store and get the correct O ring, or swipe it off another tranny, I wouldn`t use the gasket sealer, as most of the O rings on the dip sticks are fairly thick and you would have to clean it all out to get the right O ring back in, seems to me as if it would be easier just to get the O ring and do it right the first go round so you don`t have to go back and do it later.

filler tube leak
see your local tranny shop or dealer and maybe parts store ask for an filler tube boot or top hat (black rubber sleeve looks like top hat) it replaced the old style o-ring on tube change was made on 1980 and up gm tranny, now most trans use this style fill tube less leaks
