Finally starting my build

Hello to all I have began my S10 v8 build. The body is that of an 89 S-10 power plant is a 400 sbc from an RV, th400 tranny holley 650 carb. I have be procrastinating for the past year on this project but since my son has gotten interested in it it gives me the motiviation to work with it. We are doing it little by little due to weather now but we have the motor in passenger side header installed ( it started raining b4 i could finish) So tomorrow weather permitting i will install the driver side header i have a GM HEI distributor that i will be using nothing major just a stock HEI. I have seen the electric water pump drive kit, I'm really thinking about going with it (just cause i havent seen too many people with it. I am curious to know if i can still use my column shifter with the 400 or do i have to go with a floor shifter? This is just something i bought to do really just to say that i did it. It will be nothing more than a primed out weekend warrior something for me and my sons to take and hang out at the track. Any input you guys can give me or advice would be greatly appreciated. OAN I will be pulling the engine back out eventually to rebuild to a 406 sbc I have already started ordering the engine internals for that build but just a little bit at a time.
