finding my dad's old car w/ vin

I'm trying to find my dad's old car that he got in high school. i'm hoping to find it and buy it back, but i don't know how to find it. i have the vin number, and it was a 77 olds cutlass supreme. does anyone know a website i can go to to punch in the vin and find it? i've tried some sites like carfax, but they couldn't find it. any help on finding this car would be very helpful, thanks a lot

Do you know where the car went after your dad had it? Do you know any one in the police dept? How about the license bureau. The license bureau should be able to do a history on the car. We have to have one to be able to sell a used car here in Ontario. It goes back to 1974 I believe. I'd try there first to see if it is still registered in your state. if they won't give you the name of the person it would be nice to know if it is still around. Then you can go from there. Good Luck. I have a friend that found his '40 merc convertible that he had sold in 1962. It was his first car. it took him almost 10 years to find it. So don't give up trying. Cheers!!!
