Not certain but I believe you have to change the chip in the computer or have it reprogrammed by using the Hypertech programmer.

dreadlord,

The governor is in the tail shaft housing of the transmission, but it doesn't keep the car from going too fast, it just causes the transmission to shift when engine reaches a "given" RPM. By doing so the engine will not over rev and you will not end up walking home from the drag strip.
You can override this in cars with manual/automatic valve bodies by putting the selector in "low" and giving it the gas. The car will stay in that gear until you move the selector up to the next gear. If you do not move the selector the engine will keep revving up until something gives. In the end it is usually your checking account that gives the most. Either by paying ticket or shop owner for services rendered.

yep, that's the way to deal with the rev limiter. the governor is a little different; either a reprog will need to be done on the ecu, or you'll have to hook up the wire that goes from the speed sensor on the tranny to the ecu to a switch - turn off the switch and it kills the sensor signal to the ecu. this get's around the speed limiter, however it'll kill the odometer and speedometer. keep in mind this can only be done on a manual tranny.

Gas engines donít use a governor diesels do though.
In í91 the Camaro came with 2 tires 1 was Z-rated and there was no speed limiter the other came with H-rated I think. Those cars had a 120 mph limiter; the computer is what cuts fuel when you get to that speed. Any aftermarket chip will eliminate the speed limiter.
