We once had a Ferrari 308 in the shop next door, it ran so bad, popping and farting- we went next door and had a look.
We saw the firing order on the front cover, and redid the wires, and it fired up and ran decently, much better than it had before we redid the firing order.
The mechanic who's shop it was claimed it was "impossible", he had the firing order EXACTLY as the valve cover had written on it.
So- we had a look-see.

The front valve cover had a DIFFERENT firing order on it than the rear valve cover?!?!?!

The best guess was the car was hit in the rear, and the wrong year cover was used as a replacement, with a different firing order on it. Maybe different year, or....?

Fords are difficult in some cases, firstly many *assume* that the cylinders are identified as 1-3-5-7 and 2-4-6-8 which they aren't.
Then there is the two different Windsor firing orders, and YES... I found out "the hard way"...?
LOL!
