A first for me.

Over the years for business I have tried many different cars since I do 50-70,000 miles a year.
Last four cars have been Rovers, well the 2001 is getting close to 200,000
so it was time to buy a new car yesterday. (wifes idea, not mine)

Sad part is the new rover now only comes with air suspension and in past was an option that at 60-80,000 miles required a $4000 bill to fix. So this will be my last rover.
Sad, as this one was the best one I ever had and not ready to let go yet.
This is unlike me as after 3 years and all the miles I do, I'm ready for a new one after 3 years.

My wife has always hated my rovers but we took it to the dealership last night to sign the papers on the new car and she admitted it still rides and looks like a 30,000 mile car. I brought up the idea we just keep it around in case she wanted to drive it once in a while but we won't print her four letter word statement about that.

I'm thinking if I park it in basement she might forget I still have it.

It will be around for a while as I need to paint the hood due to chip and replace the front glass for about the 6th time.

Ok, I read that 3 times and I'm still not sure if you're not getting a new car, or you did get a new car, or you're getting one soon.

And hey, if you want, I'll let you keep that Land Rover at my house. You can stop by and drive it whenever you want. I won't even charge you for storage. I'm going to need a set of keys though, incase I need to um, move it around.

Sorry,
I paid for one last night and they will pick up in another state Monday but it does not have running boards, so they will add and deliver Tuesday.

Had to buy one, wife has been bugging me for six months but when my kid said she is just going to surprise you and buy you a car, (Good kid, to keep dad informed)
I knew I had to do something as I hate surprises.
I knew her idea of a surprise would be a sion or something good on gas mileage.
No way!

Getto,
great idea and perhaps I should give you a credit card so you can keep fresh gas in it!! Would not want the gas to get old and stale!

Barry I like the way you think! And hey, I've even got room for those two Thunderbirds I saw in the background of the photo.

Yea good call avoiding a "surprise" I try to avoid them as much as I can.

Thats between you and my wife! That is her garage and cars and off limits to me.

I have always said I would rather fight any three guys at one time than take on that 110 lb red head!

About four years ago we were at a party and one of the braves ball players wanted to buy the 57 for his wife he was up to $60,000 after starting at 40,000 and when I got there the conversation was "My wife really wants this car" and her comment was, its mine and I want it more than your wife.
She was not talking nice either!

SO, if your man enough, call her!

I was at my buddies exhaust shop a few weeks ago Barry, and there was a customer in there with one of those newer T-birds,had an ABS complaint. The guy was too greasy to drive the car after the repairs and the customer was there,so he asked me to drive it and check the pedal. I never was really interested in them,as they have the "girl car" look too much. Anyway,I drove it and they are nice, sweet interior, comfortable to sit in.
The guy was older, over 60 at least,he tells me to get on it. I told him that I was not wanting to dog his car, besides I am thinking the worse at all times,so I drove it casual as he would, tried the brakes on some curved roads, and performed several panic stops.
The only complaint that I had with that car,was that I am only 5' 7",and I know I hit my head 5 times minumum, getiing in that car, turning to find the seat belt and so forth. If I hit my head in it,I wonder how a taller person can even slide into it.

RC

As I understand it it is the jag suspension and V8, the first models were underpowered but in 2003 raised the HP.
It will run but I will tell you this, if the top is up and I climb in, I grown and moan and she will say OK gramps! If top down its OK.

It's still a lot easier to say than Honda Civic-LOL
Seriously,I have several friends and co-workers who have had very good luck with Toyotas-Camrys and pick-ups with over 200,000 relatively trouble-free miles. Bodies rusted away before mechanical problems of any consequence in most cases. Most of these guys weren't too good about maintenance either.
Good Luck with your new ride,George

I think Toyota has consistently had the best vehicles for the money now a long time. If I was buying new I would probably go woth a Toyota, even though I am pretty much anti-import.
