First Project Car

Hello, I was roaming around online and came across this forum. Lots of great information and suggestions here. I just picked up a 1965 Ford Fairlane yesterday. I basically just have a frame and body panels. There is an inline six that is literally just "sitting" in it, no tranny, rear end is pretty much non existant, and the interior is trashed but the body is good. Only rust issues we can find are the floor pans -- they are like swiss cheese. But the price couldn't be beat. I am really looking forward to making her my own. My poor husband is going to assist me through this endevour so sometime over the next few years we will either be divorced or closer than ever! Thanks again for all the posts and such. I feel that this forum will become a fast favorite.

You might want to research the costs before you bail in, and check to see what really nice similar models sell for. Typically a car like that will cost about twice as much to bring back up than it's ever going to be worth and that doesn't include your labor. I realize you aren't in it for the money but it's still a factor. If it was a factory HiPo coupe with a 4 speed and bucket seats it might be worth considering. If it's a plain jane six banger 4 door I think I would keep looking for a better car to use as a project.

I know that the car will not be sold for anything close to what we will put into it. I actually have no intentions of selling the car (intentions change over time and I am aware of that). The goal is for the car to become my daily driver. We have actually been looking for a car in the "state" this one is in. There is no rush. The fairlane is the two door model. The only model I like better is the 66/67, however those are a bit more than I want to pay for due to the fact they are quite a bit farther along. The car wil not be a restoration, but more of a custom car, therefore i hate paying for the work someone else has done, only to tear it out and replace/modify it. Besides $500 is kinda hard to beat around here for a body style I like. Frame and body is in good shape and all the glass is intact and in fantastic shape, so worse case, the glass paid for the car
