first start up with new bearings and rings
i should be done with my 355 tomorrow evening. what kind of break in do i need to do? im trying to get it back on the drag strip friday night.
no machine work done, just freshen it up , rod,main and cam bearings are new as well as flat top pistons(replaced the stock replacement dish pistons) and new rings. it was put together with comp cams assembly lube and i got a bottle of the zinc additive to pour in the oil. iv never done a bottom end so im kinda scared of the first start and break in |

how do i need to run the engine? its a 30 over 350 with new flat top pistons, new cam bearings and .010 under rod and main bearings.
no machine work was done. its was rebuilt a couple years ago. it spent the last couple summers in a drag car so the oil pressure was getting low. while i had it apart i replaced the dish pistons with flat tops and new rings. i hope to start it tomorrow evening and have it back on the strip friday night |

No new cam and lifters? If not I'm assuming you kept the old cam and lifters in sequence as they came out of the block. If thats the case then I would still pre-oil it, make sure the timing is right on the button and gas in the carb so it will fire quickly. Fire it up and let it run at 1200-1500 for a few minutes and check for leaks. Time it and take it for a spin, if all is well then break the rings in properly if you want to race it Friday.

hi stan, i admire you guys that can do engine builds, i could strip a motor ok and do the bottom end ok, but i get lost around cams and from head up im lost.

no new cam, reinstalled the comp 270H with the lifters in the same bore they came out of. it was new, only has 5 1/8th mile passes on em
cant take it for a spin, no tags |
