First Time Rebuilding Woes

I removed the intermediate servo from the valve body and it had a split metal sealing ring on it like a piston ring. The manual I'm using said if the seal was a Teflon seal replace it Teflon seal and if it was a metal seal replace it a metal seal.I looked in my rebuild kit and there is no metal seal,so I was thinking of just replacing it back with the old metal seal since I didn't have a new one and I didn't think I could get off with out breaking it.My brother in law took care of that,I heard a snap and an uh oh,broken. My question is should there be a metal seal in my kit or do I replace it with a Teflon seal and can the Teflon seal be used in place of the metal,if so how do I identify the right seal from the kit,is it a square cut seal or an o ring.I know this all sounds stupid but I was planing to go one step at a time replacing things as I went a long.I looked on the web a couldn't find anyone offering a replacement seal.I included a picture of the part I'm refering to.
Thanks

Your kit should have a seal.
It will be square cut whether its teflon or steel.
Check the seals you have in the bore and you will find the right one.
Then check it in the groove to make sure its not a tight fit.
If its teflon, just work it over the piston carefully and stretch as needed to get it on.

Oh yeah, forget what the book says about what to replace what with.
I've changed to any or either with no ill effects.

If I'm wrong somewhere, I hope someone chimes in.
I know these small details get you nervous when doing your first build.
