Fitting a big block in a chevy II
 

Hey guys I was just wondering how hard and how much work and money does it take to fit a bbc in a chevy II? Is it worth doing.

Depends on how much of the work you can do yourself. For that matter, in your earlier posts you talk about your dad having a 496 hot rod and an uncle with a 668 c.i. BBC making 2,000 hp. Maybe they can pitch in, they must know what direction to take.

Do you intend to DIY or have it done by a shop?

62-67 Chevy II/Nova? If so, the shock towers need to be cut back, or an aftermarket front suspension clip installed with new inner fenderwells. 1968 Chevy II/Nova? Those actually came with a big block option and is a true bolt in. 62-67, I'd use a big inch small block rather than a big block. junior stocker.

Bolting the engine in is the easy part, its what goes between the engine mounts and behind the flywheel that becomes the PITA. You have to build a big block car, not just put one in. Fwiw depending on what you want a boosted sbc 350 can give you a lot of streetable power.

I have a 1962 Chevy II and when I got it there was just a 283 sbc in it and that was a tight fit! I'm a newbie at this kind of stuff but I feel like it would take a lot of work and not really be worth it. Personally I'm just going with a 400 sbc which i feel like will be enough power for how much it weights!

And I'm not sure if you could even cut the shock towers back that much cause the coils seem to fit in almost right up against it so you could only get another 3-4" in my opinion.

if your leaving front end stock go with smallblk takes special oilpan and oilpump and pickup tube they sell kits. the cool thing is the front unbolts you can go in and fab the front frame ,hang a straight axle big block and super koolllll. and don't forget to cut rear fenderwells out to get some meat on the outside
