I have a car that is painted copper and then was taped off for flames on the side of the car. Black paint was then used to paint the flames in, so it looks like the flames are copper running down into the black. I want to play with this a little and try to make the flames be less noticable, kinda lika a ghost flame. Is there a way that I can mix some pearl and clear into the copper base I have left over and spray over the flames to blend them in with the rest of the car? I want to achieve just a hint of the black showing through the copper, pearl, and clear. How would you guys go about doing this? The products I have been using is PPG. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Which PPG products have you been using? DBU, DBC, Omni, Global, or Nexa? Bob

I have been using DBU and 2002 clear.

Steve, you could use some DBU500 midcoat intercoat clear and mix in the amount of basecoat and any pearl that is needed, the intercoat clear mixes and sprays the same as basecoat and will need to be clearcoated. Go to PPG's website and print off the tech sheets for all products you're using. Scuff the panel down then mask off your flames and apply your transparent mix over the flames, unmask then clear the complete panel. You might want to spray a black test panel then apply your transparent mixture over it to verify it's what you want before respraying the flames. Bob

Thanks for the advice Bob. That's a good idea about the black test panel. After spraying a test panel then I can adjust the mixture accordingly to give me the desired look, correct? What kind of effect will the pearl give me? The DBU base that I am using already has some pearl and metalic mixed into the base.
