67 Mustang with all new panels from the doors back. The roof is clean but now with flash rust. Also, we leaded in the quarter panel seams on the sail panel.
So now it is about time to epoxy everything in and begin the light body work.
I have some questions but seem to get confused a little.
I know many people on this site love the SPI products. I have used the Universal Clear and really liked it a lot. When I called SPI today they said that I should sand the flash rust with 80 grit and to clean the metal with wax and grease remover and then put on the Epoxy. Also, that if I still had some flash rust that was okay because the Epoxy would seal it in.
I just get a little creeped out about leaving flash rust under the epoxy. I am not that experienced so I need some advice. I have used Metal Conditioner and Metal Cleaner prior to expoxy before using PPG products and had great luck. What are your thoughts on this?
Secondly, I am trying to decide between SPI Epoxy primer that is about $144 for both activator and epoxy and Transtar 6131 and it's activator at $200 or PPG's Shop Line Epoxy sealer. I am not sure about the price of the shopline.
What are your thoughts on the products listed? It is for my son's daily driver but I want it to look great and hold up well.
