Flat Glass installation urethane or silicone?

I have a fiberglass car and getting ready to install the glass. All but the door glass is stationary glue in. My auto glass shop said they use a good grade silicone. Any suggestions on using urethane vs silicone?

Steve

Guess that's what I'm asking.... What are the pros using? I like to do a lot of research on something before I take one persons advice.... Learned that a long time ago. No offense taken...

I agree..I don't think I would use silicone..

I would say something like Urethane Windshield Adhesive..

I use urethane with 3M primer to glue in the glass. Once set and cured, I then use black silicone to do the finish work as silicone is much easier to work with than urethane.

If you use the urethane adhesive, don't ever try to get the glass out again. The fiberglass flange will get distroyed if you do and you'll probably break the glass. The fiberglass is just too weak to try to seperate the the adhesive from. Yea, you can use the piano wire method to slice though, but that's assuming you can get the wire in and there is clearence all the way around to saw.

That adhesive is made for modern cars where the glass is almost part of the structure. I did it and will never use it on a fiberglass car again. I used silicone after that and never looked back (on a fiberglass car).
