Flathead is flat

************on forums... have a 53 f100 flattie w 3 on the tree. Cracked 8rt head. Got a nos 8ba head. Need to know if I should stay w rt heads or use 2 8ba head? Pretty sure truck is mostly orig. Pretty sure truck was built in Canada. Does it matter? New to to the flathead bit. But it was love at first sound. Would love to talk to someone who knows these trucks inside and out. From one car guy to another.
PS. My driver used to be a 68 Tbird w a 429. Damn those were good days. Gas was less than a buck a gallon!

I am un wise to the ways of the flathead so I will not advise or bs in any detail, it sounds like you may be close to the fix anyhow with that spare head plate

Good luck

To the best of my knowledge, the heads will interchange just fine.

Replacement heads, '49-'53 Ford and Mercury will interchange on your F1 engine. I would probably use a matched set, i.e. 8BA's if you have them as I recall, there is a very small amount of compression difference between a truck engine and a car. If you don't have a pair, it wont make much, if any difference anyhow

Thank you my fellow Irishman. Which heads were for the trucks? Does it matter where truck was made. Where can I purchase original spec sheets parts lists etc? Does anyone know a guru in the north jersey NYC area?

The 8RT heads are the truck heads. The CM heads are Mercury. If you go to the Ford Barn web site they have a forum devoted strictly to flathead fords. They are pretty much purists but there is a wealth of flathead knowledge there.
