Flexplate 350 Chevy 153 or 168 tooth?

I hope one of you guys can tell me how many teeth the flexplates have that came on the 1985 350's used in the Caprice Police Package. I searched this sites old posts, looked online, called the parts department of a local Chevy dealer and got nothing. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Do you have the starter?

If it has a staggered bolt hole pattern like this......

It is a 168 tooth.

If it looks like this...straight across pattern..........

It is a 153 tooth......

Flex plates

So, the size flex plate and tooth number really has nothing to do with the block, or the transmission, it depends on what starter you choose to use, and starter choice would vary depending on what is correct for your car?

Thanx for reply in advance,
Dennis

There are two basic sizes ...... the 153 tooth flywheel and the 168 tooth flywheel.

You need to have the right flywheel to match the clutch/pressure plate OR the right converter. Some flywheels will not clear some straight drive bell housings ...

Added to all the confusion ... is the fact that there are two different styles of crankshafts and require different bolt patterns. Then you have different balance flywheels ... internal and external balanced ...

Some V8 Chevrolets have a 3 bolt starter that bolts to the bell housing ... not the block ...

Lots of differences ... in 50 plus years of production ...
