Flexplate Clearance

How tight is too tight on a flexplate? I have a 168 tooth plate and it leaves about 1/4" (or a little less) around a th350 bellhousing. Should I downsize to a 153?

after actually bolting bell to block The exact measurement is 1/8" clearance from closest edge of tooth to closest bell bolt hole casting (that comes in on an angle).

Well the way I see it, If it is not touching now something pretty bad is going to have to happen to make it touch. Right?
