flexplate question

i have a 350 block that i bought a scat forged crankshaft for.. im making a 383 stroker. the block is from 74 i believe... will this flexplate work if i am going to externally balance the engine.. I also have a 700r4 transmission from an 86 trans am. also.. would i have to get a certain size 400 blancer to work with this flexplate?

"It is 14.13" in outside diameter, has 168 teeth on the starter ring gear, and is an external balance style flexplate. It has the dual bolt pattern to accommodate 10 3/4" & 11 1/2" torque converter bolt circle patterns for the Powerglide, TH350, TH400, and 700R4 transmissions."

build a 383 SBC from used parts

You will need 400sbc parts with the 400 crank and harmonic balancer and use a 400sbc flex plate too. Talk with a local engine builder about the difference...he should show you the two different plates. When I bought my cat crank I was told to buy the 400 balancer and flex plate then I paid to have the rotating assembly clearanced..the block had to be cut...to accommodate the 400 crank and rods and had a roller cam and roller lifters installed in reworked 2.05 heads..roaring mouse!!

Damed if I know...they came off a roundy round car, got them cheap, newly rebuilt heads with new studs and new valves guides and ported and polished.

Hey 280 what part of Georgia are you from? I am in NW GA in Silver Creek a little community just south of Rome. I have been working on my project 280 Z8 for some time now. Collecting parts and notes from the internet and anywhere else I can get it.

I will probably start on putting the 350 in this summer. Funny my deadline has come and gone so many times now. The car was supposed to be done about two years ago!

If you are reasonably close give me a hollar and maybe we could give one another a helping hand once in a while.

who much you got in the Z car??

Some guy from out West is trying to trade me a 260Z with the 350/350 setup for my 37 Dodge and I'm curious as to how much it cost to build one of these Z8's.

Tazz,

It can be done cheaply or it can get very expensive. I go to a web site that specializes in this transformation. It is called hybridz.org There is a whole lot of info there on the Datsun V8 swap.

I hear ya on the parts stockpile thing. I have our spare bedroom and basement full of stuff. I will be farming out my engine soon so I do not have any internal stuff for it though. However I did buy a 168 tooth flex plate. I hope I got the right one that I will be needing. I did not give it much thought when I bought it but after reading a few threads on this site I may have to get another one when the time comes.

Cook Co. that's near Savannah isn't it?
