Hi folks

My engine is repaired and ready for assembling in the car. Last time i did sometimes notice a crying noise from the starter. I checked it an made these photos. Can it be, that's the clearance is to much?

Any advices?

kinds regards

Robert

That to much clearence, needs to be tighter. Should be pretty close to the thickness of paper clip wire. You can use different thicknesses of washers on the inside or outside starter bolt to get it closer. Can't remember which one, I've got it written down at home.

Thanks for the replies. Starter is assembled without shims because shims will increase the clearance.
In my though the best solution is to mill the starter base 040-060" down.

My engine is a Buick 455 and its hard to find a starter back brace to block. I hope it will work with proper timing (MSD 6530 i can programm very less advanced timing while cranking) it will work without one.
