floor boards and doors

Hey, restoring 75' chevy and after two years ,were moving to the inside. Were first going to cut out the floor boards, and we dont know what kind of metal to get, how thick, or where to get it. We also need doors, and i'm a little apprehensive of going to a junkyard, but dont want to pay an arm and a leg for doors. Should i just bite the bullet and buy new doors. Got to keep in mind that were making a show truck.

18ga minimum for the floors. That big of an area would probably be better in 16ga. Plain old cold rolled low carbon steel it perfect. Be nice to have a bead roller handy to roll some character beads and prevent 'oil-canning'.

Why be apprehensive about the junk yard? Go look and see what is available. If they are there, straight, no repair, & no cancer, why not go wit them? I'll guarantee, junk yard factory doors will fit better and require less work than any repro ones you could buy.

75 Chev doors & floors

Hi Beau,
There are more re-pop floor , floor support ,rocker panel parts on the market than you can shake a stick at . Just go to almost any nation wide parts house chain (NAPA, Car-Quest ,Auto Value ,etc. )and ask them about it .
Also ,you could go to almost any body shop & ask if they have a "patch panel" catalog (Keystone ,even J.C. Whitney ,comes to mind). Why knock your self out trying to fab up a floor pan when these parts are so plentiful ?
As long as it's not an outside visible panel ,re-pop parts work great . I DO agree with Willys though , if you are looking to get good fits & a better quality , then for sure go for OEM parts , either new , or used if they are good ones . I know a lot of guys will tell you aftermarket parts fit just as good as OEM , but I'm telling you as a man who put 30+ years in as a bodyman , there is NOTHING that fits better than OEM , and even THEY need re-vamping occaisionally . Just my .02 worth , hope it helps ,Rick
