Flush fitting a windshield.
I read many of the articles on setting a windshield and other related subjects and was hoping someone could help me. Also subscribed to a similar thread talking about chopping a top.
I was wanting to flush fit my windshield in the 36 and saw a real nice 37 Ford at a car show here in Harrison this weekend that was done this way. I really like the rubber gasket he used. It was very small and wasnt intrusive (even smaller than a S-10 Gasket)....like 3/16 wide around the edge of the glass. He called it an inverted rubber gasket. Do you know what he's talking about. He said it is used a lot on street rods now. I've been digging through sites all week trying to find what he was talking about. Even went on the sites listed in our 'how to' section and checked all of the vendors. Do you have any idea where a guy can find these on the net? Also....on a similar note. I'm doing away with the crank out....worried about leaks and I like the 'smooth' look. Also want to clean up the look a little and hide the urethane underneath because I know the urethane wont leave a perfect uniform edge. With that said, the new windshield will have to be oversized. I'll be making a template out of 1/4 plywood and test fitting. The same guy (with the 37) had ordered his glass with the black dots...Brian said it was called Frit. Its the black coating on the inside of a new vehicle windshield that helps hide the uglies underneath. I assume it also helps the sealant adhere better to the glass as it has a dull finish (ceramic bonded to the glass). Do you know any places on the net or lead me to any shops that can do this for me as well? Thanks, Dave Last edited by Stovebolter : 05-28-2008 at 05:44 AM. |

So sorry folks. I finally found a thread explaining what I was needing. Mikey explained everything and I've subscribed to that thread. It seems I was spelling frit wrong when I did a search. I was spelling it as 'fritz'. Duh! Sorry.
