Flush Mount tail lights for a 65 mustang

Alrighty, I've decided something after fooling around with the tail panel of my 65 Mustang and trying to get the gas cap hole straight. It dawned on me then, why don't I just shave the darn thing? That's easy enough with just a straight filler neck and open the trunk to fill it.
Now what i want to do is find a way to flush mount the tail lights to get it to "flow". Keep it level and keep a general theme. I could go led, but i kinda like the old school look when the tail lights light up. Any ideas out there, or experience?

A flat panel across the back could look good and you could search the junk yards for tail lights. Corvette tail lights might look good. But putting the filler neck and cap inside the trunk is another story, if I remember right the cap on a sixty five was vented. This means that fumes could build up inside the trunk and go boom! And besides we all spill a little fuel from time to time when we fill up so do you really want that in your trunk? There is not a solid bulk head behind the rear seat on the early mustangs. You could however move the filler to the side of the quarter panel.

that is actually a good point, didnt even think about venting the gas cap, wonder if i could just run a vent hose somewhere out of the trunk instead.

Now as far as those tail lights go, I definitely want to stick with the original 3 bar design. I just need to figure out how to fab something up that will mount flush on the rear. I've seen l.e.d.s used but I would like to find a way to maybe just customize my original tailights. I figure there's gotta be some hotrodders out there that know what I'm talking about right?

Maybe consider a pair of later MUSTANG 3-bar lamps without the bezel(s) frenched into the rear body panel. Also consider a pop-open fuel filler similar to the 67 SHELBY.
