I am about ready to put the windshield glass into a 1932 ford 3w downs fiberglass body. I would like to paint the window inside like the new cars on the edge so you can not see the glue. What paint should I use for this?

A glass shop should know...

There is a special paint available for just this purpose. I don't know the brand or name off the top of my head, perhaps someone in the glass business would know for sure.

I do know that you'd get a better bond if you mask off the majority of the glass, with just the edge strip showing, and lightly frost the glass with a sandblaster or perhaps some acid would do the trick. Paint does not like to stick to glass because it is so smooth, the acid etching or frosting with a blaster would give the glass edge some 'tooth' for the paint to bond better.

When I did the windshield on my Model A as a flush mount, I had crappy luck with the urethane setting tape. Get your windshield adhesive in a caulking gun and set a bead about 1/4" from the edge, a nice big 3/16"-1/4" bead. Set the glass in place, press it in to get the sealer to spread out to the edges, and then get inside and with a small caulking tip (use 2 tubes), go back around the inside and inject sealer in the inside gap until it comes out nice and flush with your interior edge all the way around. In my case, the setting tape was on the edge and did not spread out very much at all when I installed the glass. I went back around the inside edge with the caulking gun, and then went around the outside edge to fill any gaps which were visible.

Most any glass shop has the S-10 window trim that is like a T-shape in cross-section. DO NOT use the rubber trim which slips over the edge of the glass, it's quite difficult to set the glass in place with it on, and still get a decent gap all around. The S-10 trim is a lot more forgiving...

Where did you get the window for your 32, was it a local cut, if so how much did it cost?

Auto Glass Specialists...

the local franchise did mine for $125 for the '28 A sedan. I gave them a plexiglas pattern to work from. I'm thinking they got mine out of a late Jeep Wrangler windshield. And my sedan frame was a 4" chop, with custom curved upper corners between post and roofline.
