Fly Wheel Knocking

hey guys i own a 1981 chevy scottsdale half ton 4wd pickup with a stock 400 sb in it and i need to know of how i can diagnose on the possibility of knowing just by listening on how my fly wheel would sound if it came loose from the crank or if the bolt holes are cracked i need to know the signs without pulling the motor that would be last resort kinda thing please let me know what i can do thanks

should be able to turn the engine by the crank bolt by hand and see if the flexplate has run out from being broken

or if it is loose from being cracked all the way around at the mounting bolts to the crank shaft.

use a long prybar or something, to figure out if its loose etc,

may need to remove the converter bolts real quick.., to make sure of it being loose or not...


they often do make noise when cracked all the way around yeah.

seen quite a few over the years....
