Flywheel question

This may have been beat to death, not sure, but.. I have a 79 Chev 350 motor and 79 350 Turbo tranny. I m putting this into a 67 chev SB stepside.
My question is why is the 305 flywheels and the 350 flywheels so much diffferent in size? Stupid me, when i took the engine off the stand to put into the truck i had 3 flywheels laying on the bench .. 2 small ones and 1 big one, and I just grabbed one (of the small ones without any thought) and bolted it to the engine and put the engine in and then put the tranny in and bolted everything up until I got to the torque converter......... ..the bolt holes in the torque converter dont match up to the bolt holes in the flywheel... ....so now I have to take everything back apart again to swap flywheels.. i am dazed and confused here, never noticed that difference before... is that normal

Yes, this is normal. Chevy uses 2 different diameters/tooth count flywheels. Just your luck you grabbed the wrong one! LOL
