Ford 2.3L cooling question

On the Ford 2300 Lima engine, there is a coolant passage that flows through the factory manifold under the carb and into the cylinder head. Can I plug this passage and cap the line at the water pump or is it needed to have proper cooling flow? I fabbed up an intake and left this coolant port out, but I can add a brass fitting fairly easily if it will prevent cooling problems.

If I can leave it off do I just cap the port coming off the water pump or do I need to reroute it somewhere?

That port needs to be there. It supplys the head with coolant. If you block it off, you could make the head too hot and warp it.

I figured as much. Would it be benneficial to move the coolant port to the rear of the head?
