Ford 302 engine to engine stand bolt size?

I removed the engine to trans bolts with a 5/8" socket, but went to get longer bolts and it looks like I need 3/8" bolts. What gives? are there two standards for bolt sizes?

The size of the bolt head doesn't always correspond to the diameter of the bolt threads. A 7/16" bolt has threads with a diameter of 7/16", the head can be any size.
