I usually build everything, I have a lathe, mill, plasma, torch Mig, tig, press, E wheel, bead roller, saws, etc It's easier to try and not re-invent the wheel every time. I check out my speedway catalog, the Welder Series,TCI, SCotts, Morrison, CCR, RPM, Etc. info. There are some pieces that aren't worth the time and material cost to try to build myself. But my steel supplier will order full length's of DOM tubing for about 30 % of what some of the catalogs want. And I regulary check out their inventory of cut offs, drops, before they load it into the recycle dumpster. That goes by the pound about 20 % of what full lengths would cost.
