Ford 302 performance build
Alright I'd like some advice from people who have some 302 knowledge. I'm getting ready to build a 302 for my 1995 mustang 5.0 gt. Now I've got a roller 302 block out of another mustang that I'm wanting to hot rod.
Now, I understand that the stock block can't reliably hold over 500 horsepower. So I've almost settled with just a 306 rebuild with a Trick flow top end kit that includes Twisted Wedge heads, cam, intake, and all the hardware necessary to complete the top end.
Anyways, I was really wanting to piece together my own 331 or 347 stroker combo that would include AFR 185 heads, Edelbrock RPM2 intake, and a custom grind cam. I'm basically open to any suggestions on combos though.
So, not to leave anyone out in the open. What I'd really like is a nice streetable combo that will get me in the low 12's in the quarter, and still run on pump gas.
My current set up is your basic bolt-on 5.0: Underdrive pulleys, Cold air intake, Short tube headers/full exhaust, king cobra clutch and 3.73 gears in the rear. This combo is good enough for high 13's in the quarter on a good day. The car without me in it should way somewhere around 3300 pounds or less seeing that it is a factory no option GTS V8 model much like the 80's lx mustangs.
So Ford guys, or anyone with 302 experience... What say you?

SCAT is one of the very best cast cranks, which are good for all but
bonzai motors as the cast iron has a little ductility which dampens the
harmonics unlike a forged crank

(I did lots of research before I built and swapped in a roller efi 351W in place
of my 5.0 so have lots of bookmarked info - hang on!)
also look in these Ford magazines for info in their builds & tech articles
And here's a great resource, esp for heads
go to the AirFlowResearch site, in the Articles section,
in the Ford section, lots and lots of builds in there.
But esp go to the bottom of the article list and look
at the multi part test of most major small block
heads, both airflow and dyno power on representative
small block builds.
