Hey guys!! i have a 1955 Mercury M-100 (Ford F-100) that has a Ford 302 small block in it. the previous owner of the truck took out the manual transmission and switched it for an automatic and as nice as it is i'm interested in putting a manual transmission back into the truck. i have no clue what would fit it or that would work so i'm open to suggestions. im also thinking of putting a ford 9" rear end in the truck, is that possible?

T-18 4spd is dirt cheap ,it'll bolt up with the right bellhousing, and a simmilar transmission would have been available in 1955. It is a truck transmission tho, and has a 6.32 granny gear and it would shift and drive like a truck..

There is the 3spd, 4spd toploaders ( including OD version ). all will bolt in and work with little work

I would go with a *early* WORLD CLASS T5 for a Mustang. It'll hold 300-350hp, have a mechanical speedo drive. I do NOT know where this will put your shifter. The GM guys use a S10 tailhousing because the camaro T5 is tilted approx 15*; and the S10 tail puts the shifter in a good spot for bench seats and uses the mech speedo.

1st page of the parts breakdown will give you a list of assembly numbers to look for on the transmission tag. Id recommend a late 80s V8.

Ford changed the balance weight amount and clutch sizes on the 302's- 5.0, You have to use the right one or you will get vibration. 4 speed OD from F 150, and Econolines also will work and the shifter should be in the right spot.
