ford 306 carb/intake combo?

Hey guys long time no see! I recently aquired a 90 mustang lx 5 speed with a carb'ed 306. I dont know too much about the cam specs.. The idle is pretty choppy at 1000 RPM and It has very little power below 3000RPM. It has a 4 corner idle holley 750 double pumper and a Super Victor Junior intake.. this combo is terrible. Not streetable at all. It screams above 3000RPM, but stoplight to stoplight is bad. Other than that I know it has comp cams 1.6 roller rockers and an MSD 6A/ Blaster 3 coil and an OEM style distributor with and MSD cap and wires.

What carb and intake combo would you guys recommend? I was thinking about going with an Edelborck RPM intake and a Holley vacuum secondary carb.. but im not too sure. Does anyone have any opinions?

Cam is a tad big, carb and intake you spoke of would be an improvement.
Keep the carb at around 600 cfm.
a gear may help some, but I would rather put in a smaller cam. What is the static compression ratio? whats the rear gear, weight of car?

It has 3.55 gears, i think the PO said that is has 10:1 compression. I would think that the car weighs somewhere around 3100LBS or less with me in it ( i weight 140lbs). No interior. Completely stripped.

That tells me the car was made to run at the strip, not for the street.
Cams too big, carb is too big , intake is open plenum(IIRC) and compression is too high for a street engine with pump gas.

Use the performer intake,a 650 cfm carb max, and the ford E 303 cam. That should get you a more streetable combo.

Not too sure the holley is a good choice. Im thinking quick fuel super street.
They are a few bucks more, they look like they are way easier to tune than a holley and way less finicky. Been looking at one of them myself.
If it were mine , I would change the cam and intake , at least. That would make a big difference.

A cam change to something smaller will be the best help for making it a better mannered street driven car IMO. I don't recommend cams, but LATECH is prolly right on target w/his recommendation, along w/a split plenum intake.

If it has stock Ford heads I would go with the new Weiand Street Warrior Intake and a 1806 Edelbrock Thunder Series Carb with aftermarket heads the Weiand Stealth and a Holley Avenger 81670 670 CFM.
