Ford 351 W- crank and rod clearances
I'm helping a friend rebuild his engine a 351 W, well after getting some parts back from the machine shop we installed the cam, crank and pistons. I see a problem with the clearances between the two rod ends that share a spot on the crank. The side to side clearances. We have one that feel normal, (Chevy guy here) and one thats down right tight, (.001/2) ?? and two that are less than expected.. I can't find a Clarence specification. I know there is a problem here but would like to have a specification to hit the machine shop over the head with.. I did check a few rod caps for thickness and they were equal as far as that goes. This is a budget job and is filling my garage, I would like to get it settled and right for a good friend..

On 351C's the side to side rod clearances are .012" to .023" thou. Maximum. Never built up a Windsor so don't have any manuals on them.......sorry.

thanks, I did find some specs .010 to .020, and I know this engine has a big problem and would fry fast if we don't get it right. My concern is one pair of rods is within specifications and the other 3 pairs are too tight. this is a mess!!! |
