Ford 351W

1979 Ford 351W...

ran fine, shut off, cranked back up in am, barely runs. 4 cylinders at best. Every now and then backfires through carb. Seems like timing off bad but doesn't make sense that the timing chain would've skipped a tooth at this point, not ruling that out though.

Tested coil, pickup, etc. to eliminate Duraspark ignition problem.

Any suggestions?

rough running

Sounds like a possibility of one or two things or both.
How old is the gas you are running?
Did you rebuild the carb?
Could be one or the other or both being the culprits.

Nothing has been touched previous to failure. Plan on pulling valve covers to see if all is working correctly.

Doc here,

Does your engine have a TFI module on it, and if so, did you have it tested? Also does it use a Crank Position sensor for PIP information..79 was kind of a some did, some didn't year..as far as I can tell, and I am not a Ford guy at all..
