Is there a trick to installing the injectors on this 4.0 V-6? My friend is replacing the engine in his '02(?) Ranger with the OHC 4.0 V-6. Broke a valve spring and swallowed a valve, lots of carnage. Anyway, he is having trouble getting the injectors installed with the new O-rings. He's tried several different lubricants, but has still torn several. Any tricks to these things?
I just use plain ol grease.Dont put any on the O ring, put it in the cavity where the O ring slides. The dry O ring will stay with the injector, and will slide across the bore of the fuel rail.
On the 2.9 (similar to 4.0) I seat all injectors in the manifold. I use a bit of silicone grease on the upper O rings, then I place the fuel rail on top of the Injectors and gently add even pressure on either end to the fuel rail and rock the rail just a tiny bit. They should slip right in but remember to press evenly across the fuel rail.
Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll let him know, and try to get by there to lend a hand.
