Where can I find a book/website with specs of this motor and a list of aftermarket parts sources? Thanks!

Aquire a -FORD Racing Parts- catalog and you will find much of what you want. A service manual will also give you needed information.

Check to see if any of your local Ford dealerships have a Motorsport division. There is a difference. I had to check a couple before I found one in my area and was able to buy a bunch of Ford performance parts for my mustang. I'm running a 5.0 engine but I would think they would have performance parts for the 4.6 as well.

I just went to Fords website(www.ford.com). There is a link for racing to click on, then a link for I think it was (Ford Racing North America), then click on Ford racing perf. parts. Click on the Eastern area and it shows two dealers in Mass., I don't know how far you are from them but it might be worth calling them. FORDS RULE!

Hey friend, word around the shop is that in 2003 Ford is selling a Cobra Mustang with a 4.6 DOHC (up 'till now they've all been SOHC except the Continental engine) supercharged engine. You're looking at almost 400 ponies at the rear tires. Ford just might be on to something, can't wait to see.

Actually, ALL the cobras since 96 have come with DOHC engines and the GTs are the ones with SOHC engines. And the new cobra does have a DOHC and supercharged but its 390 hp and torque at the FLYWHEEL. Just wanted to get things strait. Check out www.svt.ford.com

Thanks for the tip mustang66, haven't worked on any late model Cobras yet. And for every three guys I talked to everyone had a different story about the horsepower rating. I quess I just never bothered to look it up myself. It sounds nice, to bad I'll probably never get to drive one.

I own a GT, but I know a little about the Cobras.
Your best bet is gears, & nitrous oxide. You can supercharg them too for more $$$. Sean Hyland Motorsports offers camshafts & about 10 companies sell exhaust. Most people I've seen use the stock cams & just add larger injectors & throttle bodies (this baffles me). A K&N air filter with one of the many cold air induction kits (I use March Performance, but a lot of people don't like them) and a cat back exhaust would be a good start on day two of owning the car.

4.6 DOHC Timing
I have a 4.6 DOHC with a 6-71 blower and carb. MSD computer. Stock 1996 engine. I would like to know what to set the timing on. I've been having back fire issues. I just found out that the computer comes with out timing in it. It is set at ZERO timing. I can set it any where on the chart with a lap top. Anyone what the timing is ? weelstang
